Roald Dahl

This week we have been learning about Roald Dahl and his books, here are some of his most famous books Charlie and the chocolate factory ,Matilda,, the BFG and much much more . He started writing after he was in the RAF but he got shot in a plane and it crashed but he was fine. Today we looked at some of his characters from the magic finger Georges marvellous medicine ESIO TROT, The Twits, The witches we looked at the characters the setting and the plot. One day this week we had to draw our own made up character for fantastic Mr fox.

The next day we had to put about should foxes be allowed to steal chickens from the farmers but we had to do both sides of the argument the pros and the cons the yes and no . Roald Dahl had his own writing hut in their he had a ball with all of his chocolate wrappers which he kept over all the years that he had them for he always had one after dinner time before he went back down to his special place and did some more reading and writing also lots more drawings so he could show  Quentin Blake. Then they could be in his new books to make them look much better and more exciteable for younger readers and for  people who want to be illustrators when they are older for people who are still trying to be a better reader. We also read the first eight pages of the books to find out about the characters and the setting and plot.

The writing hut  had lots of random pieces of paper with drawings he messed up on.Also he had his own hip bone in the hut he had this taken out and had a new one fitted this is one of the special reasons he liked it. This hut is a little shed at the end of his garden we he would go when he wasnt eating any other meals or had guests round to talk to him about his writing and how his writing was going and what his next book would be about.  There is a special carnival this year for one hundred years of Roald Dahl  to celebrate one of the best writers that the world has ever seen .

Hilltop (at the weekend )

Over the weekend some of year 5 went to Hilltop. At first we spent the day at Sandrigham and went into the park there and also people got to play football but we had to choose .When we got there we ate dinner  but  before we got told where are rooms were and what we coud do in our spare time also we got told the rules for Hilltop.

After dinner we got ready to play mad hatters, we got to take a waterrproof coat if it was cold or if it rained and also we got to take a drink. The nexy day we got up and got dressed and had breakfast just like a normal day and then got on with our activities. If  people were in group 1 the first  activity was the assault course and everyone had to go through the mud and mostly everyone got wet and muddy. All the other days we did different activities  including lunch and dinner.

My favourite part of hilltop was the zip wire because it was over 100m and also people had the choice of it being clipped to the back of your harness or the front. When it was clipped to the front people were able to do a super man move and was not able to hold on but still everything at hilltop was safe.

On Saturday night all the people who went to hilltop went to a disco in the games room and there was good music played , mainly everyone knew all the songs played. After the disco the tuck shop opened and people got to buy different sweets.Throughout all the time there was many instructours to keep us safe and make sure everyone was happy there was atleast more than 10 instructours!

In the rooms it was all clean and tidy and in the rooms there was a minimum of 4 people there was  bunk beds for people to sleep in and the biggest room in hilltop was  5 bunk beds and one single bed.In the rooms they were all tidy and were comfortable to stay in.

Overall hilltop was a great place and had lots of fun activities to participate in.Everyone enjoyed hilltop and it was a great expireance for everyone.

English and Hilltop

Today in English Mrs Charlesworth read five stories by Roald Dahl. Here are the stories that she read:The Twits, The Magic Finger, Esio Trot, The Witches and Georges Marvellous Medicine. We had to write notes about where the story was set, What do we think the plot is and about the characters. After that we had to write what we thought Roald Dahls characters were like.

Monday afternoon we got back from Hilltop. Hilltop was really fun and my favourite part was the disco on Saturday night. When the song Watch me whip came on everyone done the dance even the instructors did. The instructers were very nice and helped us if we were struggling in an activity. After the disco the tuck shop opened and  i brought some sweets and a drink also a purple wrist band .On sunday night the tuck shop opened again and i didnt buy anthing that night. The activites were really fun and my favourite was the tree top trail.

Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was an amazing writer and he wrote many great books with sir Quentin Blake. These two were just like partners in crime beacause they were so good together when they write and draw books with each other. There were books like The Twits,The Witches, The BFG,The Magic Finger, James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr Fox,Esio Trot, Matilda, George’s Marvellous Medicine, Boy, Going Solo, Danny The Champion of The World, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and last but not least Charlie and the Glass Elevator. All of these books at one time have been bestsellers and one of these books have put a smile on our faces or a another person’s.

Recycle posters!

This week in Re we have made recycling posters as not everybody is inspired to recycle so we made posters to inspire them. When we made them we had to make them colourful and to be able to stand out so that people can see them from a distance and that makes them want to go and look at it .These posters will be put up around the school so that people dont put the wrong things in the wrong bin and that helps people to not have to go through the bins. When we recycle we save animals and some humans lifes as  some animals go through bin bags that have been put outside and if somebody put something in the wrong bin it could hurt the animal .Also it saves humans lifes as most towns have bin men who come in the bin lorry and if they pick up the bin bag and it has something sharp in the wrong bin it could hurt the man maybe even seriously . Also because people put paper in the recycle bin when only a little part of the paper has been used. Some people beleive that say a crisp packet was now empty they would put it in recycleing when truthly it goes in non recycleable . Thes posters  should help keep the world safe and hopefully inspire people to recycle more often .
